Hampshire Constabulary have recently issued a press release advising that they are updating their database of keyholders for houses/offices which have audible security alarms (ie those that have external bells/sirens but are not connected to a response centre). The police statement can be found on the website at www.hampshire.police.uk. Go to News & Campaigns, then Press Releases and look for the release dated 09/11/07 called “Police launch new alarms record system - residents invited to register their details”.

All residents who have audible alarms not connected to a response centre are invited to register their details with the Police, giving the names and contact details of nominated keyholders. Hampshire Constabulary already hold some 60,000 house records but many of these are out-of-date. Their intention is to delete all records originating prior to Dec 2004 unless they are told by owners that these still remain valid. These households will receive a letter from the Police accordingly. Details of keyholders for “communicating” alarms have their details held by the response centre concerned, and such houses are not affected by this database change.

The aim of the database is to allow Police to react to an alarm reported as sounding by contacting one of up to three keyholders, normally by telephone. They will not normally attend a property with an audible alarm on its own unless suspicious activity is reported in conjunction with the alarm, when a police officer will be sent.

All householders with audible alarms are strongly encouraged to register their details with the Police. They can do this by either going to the press release on the website above and clicking on the Keyholder Registration Page button at the bottom which will take you to a page where a registration form can be downloaded, or by contacting the Police on 023 8074 5381 to ask for a registration form. A pdf copy of the Registration Form is attached to this email for convenience. Registrations cannot be made by email or telephone direct. Registration forms should be sent to the Security Systems Administration Office, Hampshire Constabulary, Vickery Building, Hamble Lane, Netley, Southampton SO31 4TS. Please distribute this email to those in your area who have burglar alarms to ensure that they area aware of this initiative.

Thank you.
